JLPT Quiz

This Privacy Policy describes how JLPT Quiz (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by the JLPT organizers, The Japan Foundation, or JEES.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

The app supports two authentication methods:

  • Anonymous Firebase Authentication
  • Google Sign-In (OAuth)

If you sign in with Google, we may collect:

  • Your display name
  • Your email address
  • Your Google profile picture URL

This information is used only inside the app for profile display and account association. We do not store or transmit this information to external servers.

1.2 Profile Editing (Camera & Media Access)

The app allows users to update their profile picture by:

  • Taking a photo using the device camera
  • Selecting an image from the device gallery

Because the app includes the CAMERA permission in its AAB, a Privacy Policy is required by Google Play. The camera is used exclusively for allowing users to take a profile photo. No images are uploaded to our servers.

1.3 Local App Data (Stored on Device)

The following data is stored locally using Android DataStore:

  • Quiz results and history
  • Achievements
  • Favorites
  • User profile data
  • Quiz statistics

1.4 Optional Google Drive Backup

You may choose to back up your data manually or automatically to your own Google Drive AppData folder. This folder is private and cannot be accessed by other apps or users.

The backup may include:

  • Quiz results
  • Achievements
  • Favorites
  • Profile data
  • Quiz statistics

We do not receive, access, upload, or store this data on any server.

1.5 No Third-Party Sharing

The app does not use:

  • Firebase Firestore
  • Realtime Database
  • Firebase Storage

No data is shared with third parties.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to:

  • Display your account information
  • Provide quiz features and statistics
  • Enable optional cloud backup and restore

We do not use your data for advertising or marketing.

3. Data Retention

3.1 Local Data

Stored on your device until you:

  • Uninstall the app
  • Clear app data
  • Delete your account inside the app

3.2 Google Drive Backup

Your backup remains in your Google Drive until you delete it manually via:

Google Drive → Settings → Manage Apps → JLPT Quiz → Delete App Data

4. Children’s Privacy

The app is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect children’s personal information.

5. Security

We rely on secure Google services (Firebase Auth, Google Drive API). However, no system is 100% secure.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update the Privacy Policy occasionally. Updates will be posted here.
